Facebook previously announced changes to topics and they are continuing to roll out those new changes to more admins. To make it easier to add topics to posts, they’re changing the format of topics from tags to hashtags. These changes also include the ability to add up to five topics to member posts, increased from one topic previously. For admins with post approval turned on, you’ll be able to do this while reviewing pending posts! You will also have an opportunity to pin topics, elevating themes they find valuable or relevant to the community.
If you are an admin already using topics, you will have the option to opt-in to the new experience. Over the coming days, you will receive an announcement at the top of your group that says “Get updated Topics for your group.” Clicking “Get Started” will enable you to use the latest version of topics, with a choice to transition your existing topics to the hashtag format and pin them. Once you complete the opt-in steps and successfully update, you will not be able to access the previous version of post topics or switch back.
If you’d like to continue to use the existing post topics rather than opting in to the new version, you may continue to do so for the time being. Please keep in mind that Facebook will be changing all topics to the new experience in the coming weeks and will share more information at that time.
