Chat Is Dead. Long Live the Superapp.

FROM THE EDITORS

For years, AI has been sold as a better chat experience: ask a question, get an answer. But the next phase is much bigger. The real shift is toward the superapp — a single personal AI agent that can handle tasks across your work and daily life, instead of making you jump between separate tools.
That’s the direction OpenAI is now signaling with its major ChatGPT overhaul. According to this article in the Financial Times, the company is repositioning ChatGPT as a platform that combines coding tools, AI agents, image generation, and partner apps such as Canva and Booking.com, while moving away from the idea of chat as the core product.
This matters because it changes how people will use AI. Instead of opening one tool for writing, another for coding, and another for images or video, users may increasingly rely on one assistant that understands intent and routes tasks automatically. In other words: less prompting, more doing.
For brands and businesses, that means the AI interface is becoming the new front door. If the superapp becomes the default place where people search, create, book, and automate, then visibility inside that ecosystem will matter just as much as visibility on a website or social platform today.
The message is clear: chat was the launchpad, not the destination. The next battle in AI is about who can build the most useful personal agent — and win the habit of being the one app people return to for everything.
